Hi everyone! My name is Kate Wroblewski. I am from Elm Grove Wisconsin, which is about a 15 minute drive from Marquette. I am majoring in Advertising with a minor in Marketing. I would love to work in something in the fashion or music industry when I graduate. A fun fact about me is that my whole family has red hair, so it must be an interesting sight when people see us all out in public.

Thats all about me, lets get into the first blog post!

Below I mapped my social media usage from Saturday 1/30-Monday 2/1.

After analyzing my social media usage for the past three days, I noticed a lot about my habits and obsession with my phone. Every single day I rely on Snapchat to keep in touch with friends, Spotify to listen to music, Instagram to see what my friends are posting, and TikTok for entertainment throughout the day. I never realized how much I used these platforms throughout my day. Whenever I would have free time I would pull out my phone and open one of those apps without thinking twice about it. If I have extra time I would also watch some Youtube or even scroll through my Twitter feed. I spend the most time on TikTok because of how addictive it is. With videos usually being less than 15 seconds, you do not realize how much time the app is actually taking up. I have been working on my TikTok usage recently because over quarantine I would spend hours of my time on there everyday. I believe I log on to certain apps for a variety of different reasons. For Tiktok I will log on if I get a notification my friend sent me a video, or out of pure boredom. Instagram I like to check throughout the day, but if I get a follow request or comment I will drop what I am doing to check my phone. Snapchat I really only go on if I get a notification, but when I do I scroll through all of my friends stories, which can take up some time as well. I try to lower my social media use when I am with my friends, attempting to be present when I am with them. On the other hand, I feel like it is very normal for people nowadays to check their social media’s when they are out with their friends. When hanging out with people I really try to only respond to a Snapchat here and there, but sometimes I catch myself still scrolling on other apps when I am with them. It has become a bad habit of mine to need to check my socials at least once every 30 minutes, which I have genuinely been trying to break. If not with friends, I will check my socials when I have free time or when I am eating a meal. I see many patterns when looking at my social media diary. I check my social media platforms every morning when I wake up, before I go to bed, and at very similar times throughout the day. I also listen to music on Spotify as I get ready for my day and when I get ready to go to bed. Overall, seeing my social media usage mapped out was a very eye opening experience for me. Looking at how much time I actually spend on certain apps wants to make me try to reduce my intake and see how that effects my daily life. It is honestly scary how much I rely on these apps for my entertainment. Maybe in the next couple weeks I will pick up a new hobby to try and decrease my intake. Hopefully there will be many updates to come.
